Sri Lanka established diplomatic relations with Barbados on June 28, the Foreign Affairs Ministry said in a press release.
An agreement to this effect had been signed between the Ambassadors of both countries to the United Nations, the release noted.
Ambassador Rohan Perera, Sri Lanka's Ambassador to the UN, and Elizabeth Thompson, Barbados' Ambassador to the UN had inked the agreement on June 28 in New York.
According to the Foreign Affairs Ministry, this move is expected to enhance friendly relations and cooperation in the political, socio-economic and cultural aspects for both countries.
