A stupa that was restored under a project funded by the U.S. Department of State was inaugurated by Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe yesterday.
The project which was carried out via the Ambassadors Fund for Cultural Preservation (AFCP), costed Rs 43 million, the U.S. Embassy noted in a media release.
The release also noted that cave dwellings, monuments, and buildings belonging to the Rajagala Buddhist forest monastery were also restored as part of the project.
Counsellor for public affairs, David McGuire who represented the embassy at the event was quoted saying that “Rajagala’s heritage is an important reminder of the breadth of the human experience in Sri Lanka”.
The ACFP has funded 13 projects in Sri Lanka since 2001.
