Member of the Raththota Pradeshiya Sabha (RPS) Tilak Kumarasiri has commenced a fast-unto-death campaign to protest the assault carried out by another member of the RPS against him.
According to reports he began his protest opposite the premises of the RPS yesterday.
Mr. Kumarasiri alleges that he was assaulted by a mob on October 5 due to the statements he made regarding the irregularities in the Pradeshiya Sabha.
He says that he would continue the protest until he is informed in writing that the future developmental projects by Pradeshiya Sabha will be carried out according to a proper procedure.
According to the Raththota Police, the former Chairman of the Pradeshiya Sabha and another individual were arrested yesterday in connection with the assault.
