14 nabbed with gold chains worth Rs 3.1 m at BIA
Fourteen persons have been nabbed while attempting to smuggle gold chains worth Rs 3.1 million into the country today (Nov 1).
Customs officials had arrested the suspects this morning at the Bandaranaike International Airport upon arrival from Chennai, India.
The gold chains weighing 4.5 kilograms had been concealed on their body, Customs spokesman Sunil Jayaratne said.
He added that the suspects have been identified as residents of Colombo, Wattala, and Ja-Ela.
Further investigations are underway.
