A 16-year-old girl was killed and another girl and a woman suffered serious injuries after they were run over by a van in Wennappuwa last afternoon.
Police said the driver of the van had lost control of the vehicle, resulting it veering off the road and striking two girls and a woman who were selling 'saruwath' on the roadside.
The three injured victims were admitted to the Marawila Hospital in serious condition. A 16-year-old girl who was among them later died of her injuries.
The remains of the deceased are lying at the Marawila Hospital. The van driver has been arrested and Vennappuwa Police are investigating.
