A group of 24 Sri Lankan fishermen were arrested with four multi-day fishing trawlers for poaching in Maldivian waters this week.
These fishing trawlers were from the Galle and Hambantota areas, the Department of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources said.
According to the Department, the fishermen had left Sri Lankan shores in three batches on June 23, June 27, and June 30.
State Fisheries Minister Dileep Wedaarachchi said talks would be held with the Maldivian Ambassador to Sri Lanka over this matter.
