250 houses were damaged following strong winds which blew across the Puttalam district, Puttalam District Secretary M.N.M. Chitrananda stated.
Mr. Chitrananda also added that transportation activities were hampered in the area as huge trees were felled due to strong winds which blew across Anamaduwa for approximately an hour. However, he noted that the situation was restored due to the efforts taken by the Police and the Armed Forces.
It is reported that the inclement weather condition in the area also caused the destruction of crops and a power failure across 40 villages in the district. However, Mr. Chitrananda said that the power was restored following measures taken by the Ceylon Electricity Board.
State Minister of Disaster Management Palitha Range Bandara who visited the affected area was quoted saying that the government is taking measures to provide a compensation of Rs 10,000 to those affected.
