There are more than 250 loss making public institutions in the country and they together had incurred losses ruling into over Rs 600 billion in 2014, State Minister of Public Enterprise Development Eran Wickremaratne told Parliament today.
The Minister made this disclosure in response to a question raised by Matara District UNP MP Buddhika Pathirana.
Mr.Wickremaratne said that as a remedial action, the government would introduce new legislation in a bid to turn around these institutors.
He also disclosed that the country had suffered a loss of Rs. 14.5 billion due to the cancellation of an order for a super luxury air craft by SriLankan Airlines during the former regime.
