32 Sri Lankans have joined ISIS Minister Wijayadasa Rajapakshe tells Parliament

Thirty two Sri Lankans have left the country to join the ISIS and information has come to light that extremist Muslims are entering the country as teachers and were indoctrinating extremism in children,   Justice and Buddha Sasana Minister Wijayadasa Rajapakshe told Parliament today.

The Minister said that the provisions of the Prevention of Terrorist Act will be used to curb such activities if the need arises in spite of statements made by the international community against the legislation.

Speaking during the second reading stage debate on budget 2017, he said that people feared the  activities of the ISIS and several foreign intelligence units who conducted operations have found that there were 32 Lankans belonging to four families had gone to Syria to join the ISIS.

“Those are not members of ordinary families. They were from well-to-do families of Muslim community. We know that Muslim coming to the country on tourist visas to teach in international schools in Beruwala, Kalmunai, Kal Eliya and Kurunegala. They propagate extremism. They feed the minds of innocent children with racism. This is serious problem.
