The celebrations of the 68th Independence day took place at the Galle Face premises this morning under the auspices of President Maithripala Sirisena. The Prime Minister and other ministers along with diplomatic officials will be present at the event.
While the event will include a parade by the Sri Lankan Army and spectacular performances, it will also see the participation of a representative of the National Youth Council.
Military spokesperson Jayanath Jayaweera said that a parade including the Army, Navy, Airforce, and the Police will add colour to the event.
Meanwhile, a special traffic plan in the Galle Face region will be in effect till 12 p.m. today.
