Another petition has been filed before the Commercial High Court of Colombo demanding compensation for the maritime disaster caused by the X-Press Pearl ship, which caught fire approximately 9.5 nautical miles from Colombo harbor on May 20, 2021.
The petition claims compensation of at least USD 06 billion from the connected shipping companies for the significant environmental damages and other distruction due to the fire.
The petition has been filed by four parties including the “Wana Arana Foundation”.
