First Secretary Inspector Brett Zehnder, Australian Border Force (ABF) along with officials visited the north to discuss programmes on preventing illegal migration to Australia.
During discussions, he told the Governor of the Northern Province Ms P.S.M. Charles that a special programme has now been launched to prevent illegal migration.
He said measures would be taken to provide training to local officials and the Coast Guard department staff on the use of new technology.
Ms Charles briefed him regarding the proposed developments of the Palaly airport and the Kankesanthurai harbour.
She said that they would also expect Australian support in preventing the entry of narcotics.
