A baby elephant which had fallen into an irrigation well at Mahakumbukadawala Kongawela was saved by the officers today.
The villages at the area said that a she elephant and a baby elephant had fallen into irrigation well two days back. As a result of the fall the she elephant had died within the well.
They elaborated that the wildlife officers reached the area after two days after the incident occurred and rescued the baby elephant which was lingering near the carcass of elephant.
The wildlife officials said that the female elephant was killed as the elephants neck area got damaged due to the fall.
