Businessman Dinesh Schaffer found tied and strangled inside his car at the General Cemetery Borella has passed away at the Colombo National Hospital last night, Police said. .
Police said Mr Schaffter, 51 was found by an employee of his company and a cemetery employee.
Police in a statement issued last night said inital investigations had revealed that he been subjected to torture inside the car and his hands had been tied as well.
Mr Schaffter had left his residence in Flower road, Colombo 7 after informing his wife that he was on his way to meet a debtor who owes him millions of rupees.
However Ms Shaffter ter had tried to contact her husband and after his found to be off for several hours she had alerted the company. Making use of a phone tracking system she was able to locate the phone to a location at the General cemetery.
An employee who rushed to the location found him. He was rushed to the Colombo National Hospital .
Mr Shaffter was Director at Janashakthi Insurance.
Police said Mr Shaffter had lodged several complaints about the person who owes him the money.
The Criminal Investigations Department is handling the investigations .
Already help has been sought to collect CCTV footage in the surrounding areas to track down on those responsible for the crime.
Dinesh Shaffter is the son of Chandra Shaffter, busienssman and Cricket Administrator who went on to form Sri Lanka's the first major Sri Lankan -owned life Insurance company - Janashakthi in 1994. Dinesh is also the brother of Prakash Shaffter, who also played first class Cricket.
