Cabinet has approved a proposal to recruit over 7,000 new state sector workers to several key government institutions.
Of the total of 7,456 new appointments for which approval was given, 3,519 will be for the Ministry of Health and Mass Media while 3,000 will be attached to the Ministry of Public Administration, Provincial Councils and Local Government.
Four hundred (400) will be recruited to the Ministry of Education, Higher Education and Vocational Education while 161 will be for the Ministry of Transport, Highways, Ports and Civil Aviation.
The others will be recruited to several ministries, the Eastern and Western Provincial councils and the Sri Lanka Human Rights Commission.
Approval for the new recruitments was given by Cabinet after considering a report of a committee chaired by the Secretary to the Prime Minister. The Committee was appointed by the Cabinet to recommend the requirements of different state institutions which are short of staff members.
