Fishermen and communities along the Southern coastal areas are advised to contact the Department of Wildlife Conservation if they spot an injured leatherback turtle.
The Department said there have been sightings of this rare species of turtles in Rekawa and Kalametiya beach areas. Leatherback turtles (Dermochelys coriacea) is the rarest species among the five turtle varieties.
The Department requested to immediately contact the Department's hotline number 1992 if one spots an injured leatherback turtle.
