Sri Lanka Coast Guard (SLCG) nabbed a lorry carrying illegally harvested shark fins along with five suspects following information received from their intelligence sources, recently.
The operation was conducted by SLCG personnel deployed at Beruwala Fishery Harbour for fishery monitoring and regulating duties. The concealed haul of dried shark fins about 185 kilos and 200 grams was recovered from the freezer lorry inside the harbour perimeters, the SLCG said.
According to the preliminary investigations, the shark fins collected from several multi-day fishing trawlers were transported for sale.
Freezer lorry and suspects were handed over to Beruwala Fisheries Inspector for onward legal proceedings, they also said.
