Chief Medical Officer for the Colombo Municipal Council Dr Ruwan Wijemuni today (13) said that only about 10 cases of COVID-19 reported daily now.
Dr Wijemuni told a Health Ministry press conference today afternoon that the main reason for the drop of cases was that 78 per cent of the Colombo’s population have obtained both vaccines for COVID-19 and now the booster vaccine is being provided.
He said that persons now have the option of getting a Rapid Antigen test at the Campbell Park.
He said that the deaths reported have now reduced to about 15 mainly due to the vaccination programme which has resulted in building up of immunity.
Despite the drop in COVID-19 cases, an increase in Dengue cases was now being reported.
“We are now preparing for a festive season. We should not make the same mistake we made last year during which high number of deaths and cases were reported. We should not be complacent of the situation and people need to take health precautions”, Dr Wijemuni said.
