A couple who tried to smuggle in gold jewellery valued at Rs. 10.2 million were arrested yesterday (9) by Customs officials at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA).
The husband and wife, aged 35 years, are residents of Wellampitiya, Colombo.
They had arrived in Sri Lanka from Muscat, Oman at 2.30am yesterday. The gold was hidden inside their clothes, Customs officials said.
They are currently being detained and questioned by Customs officials.
