A couple from Jaffna trying to leave for Canada on a forged visa were arrested at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) last night, the Immigration Department said.
The 40-year-old husband and his 34-year-old wife were due to leave to Japan and thereafter travel to Canada.
Immigration officials had felt suspicious about the visa and carried out investigations.
The couple had admitted that a local agent had demanded Rs 8 million for the visas and they had already paid Rs 6.5 million. They were handed over to the CID for investigations. (By T.K.G. Kapila)
