A writ application challenging the appointment of Ajith Nivard Cabraal as the Governor of the Central Bank was rejected by the Court of Appeal today (3).
The writ application filed by former Southern Province Governor Ranjith Keerthi Tennakoon sought a court order revoking Cabraal’s appointment as the Central Bank’s Governor.
However, considering the preliminary objection made by the Attorney General that a writ order cannot be issued to revoke the appointment as it was made by the Head of State, Appeal Court Judges Sobhitha Rajakaruna and Dhammika Ganepola rejected the writ application without taking it up for hearing.
