A suspicious container consisting of illegal tobacco products, imported from Dubai was seized following an investigation conducted by the Port Control Division of the Sri Lanka Customs Department today.
During the inspection of the container, a stack of packets containing hookah fluid (Hookah Tobacco), which is required for vapour smoking was found inside the containers, according to the department.
The contraband consists of 160,200 small packets containing 50 grams each, with a total net weight of 8010 kg. It is estimated that the market value of this consignment is around Rs. 164,000,000. Importing tobacco products that contain 0.05 per cent nicotine is prohibited in the country under import regulations.
