As of today, the deep depression over the southwest Bay of Bengal was positioned roughly 260 km northeast of Trincomalee and 305 km east-northeast of Kankasanthurai.
It is projected to move northwestward toward the Tamil Nadu coast, with its influence on Sri Lanka's weather expected to gradually lessen after today.
Showers or thundershowers are likely at times in the Northern and North-Central provinces, as well as in the Trincomalee district, with some locations in the Northern Province potentially receiving over 100 mm of rainfall.
Intermittent showers are also forecast for the Western, Sabaragamuwa, and North-Western provinces, along with the Galle, Matara, Matale, and Kandy districts. Other areas of the island may experience showers or thundershowers in the evening or night.
Strong winds, reaching up to 60 km/h, are expected in the Northern, North-Central, North-Western, Eastern, Central, and Southern provinces.
