In history, for the first time, Delft Island is going to have a fuel station.
A development agreement for the new fuel station was signed between the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) and the Delft Cooperative Society near the Kurikattuwan Jetty in Jaffna on October 4.
Over 50 million rupees has been allocated for the project which will benefit the local tourism industry, said CPC Chairman Janaka Rajakaruna.
The Sri Lanka Navy will be transporting CPC fuel tanks to Delft. This system is expected to stabilise fuel prices across the island and the Ceylon Electricity Board's oil supply will improve as the process for tankering will be completed in less than an hour.
