Ven Omalpe Sobitha Thera led a protest march today and handed over a petition to the Canadian High Commission demanding the release of a Sri Lankan-born elephant held in a zoo in their country for the last 45 years under difficult conditions.
The elephant is reportedly affected by the cold weather and also has been confined to a small enclosed area, the protestors claimed.
Those involved in the protest held placards calling for the release of the elephant.
