The Supreme Court has noted that there was no necessity to give an order to hold the Local Government elections as the Elections Commission has already informed courts that it was prepared to hold the elections.
However, the Petition filed by retired Colonel W.M.R Wijesundara seeking a directive to postpone the election is being heard now.
The intervening petitions too will be taken up today.
The final rites of veteran broadcaster, writer, and lyricist Nirmala de Alwis will be held today at Peradeniya.
