Sri Lanka may airlift Nitrogen nutrients from India to be provided to farmers before October 15, Agriculture Minister Mahindananda Aluthgamage told Parliament today (5).
The Minister responding to a question raised in Parliament said that all steps would be taken to provide the required organic fertiliser to the farmers for the next season by the required date.
He said that since the next cultivation season starts from Ampara, the farmers there will have the required fertiliser to start the season.
He said already 500,000 farmers have registered to obtain the 12,500 allowance provided to produce organic fertiliser.
However, opposition MP Thushara Indunil Amarasena expressing doubts about the quality of fertiliser said that glass pieces have been found in the organic fertiliser produced.
