First Monkeypox case detected in Sri Lanka

The first Monkeypox case has been detected in Sri Lanka.

A 20 year old from the Kelaniya area was identified as the first Monkeypox case after he sought treatment from the National Hospital. He had returned from Dubai recently.

According to medical sources  people have flu-like symptoms before the rash. Some people get a rash first, followed by other symptoms.

Other symptoms of monkeypox can include:
  • Fever.
  • Chills.
  • Swollen lymph nodes.
  • Exhaustion.
  • Muscle aches and backache.
  • Headache.
  • Respiratory symptoms (e.g. sore throat, nasal congestion, or cough)
