Fresh flood warnings have been issued to residents living around several rivers including the Nilwala River - Thalgahagoga Panadugama, Walawe Ganga - Moraketiya, Deduru oya of Moragaswewa and Attanagalu oya in Dunalame, according to Disaster Management Centre (DMC).
The Haputale – Welimada main road near the Walgahawela Junction, located some 6.5 kilometres away from the city was obstructed as a result of an earthslip earlier today.
The Badulla - Colombo Main Road is to be closed at Beragala from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. every day until further notice according to the Badulla District Secretary. The Pundaluoya Dunsinane Falls was seen overflowing in a way never seen before as the mud-mixed water gushed out over its gates.
In addition, weather reports predicted that thundershowers accompanied by severe lightning are to be expected at several places in the Western, Central, Sabaragamuwa, North-Central, North-Western, Uva and Southern provinces and in Mullaitivu and Mannar districts during the evening or night.
The Met. Department requested the general public to take relevant precautionary measures to prevent potential dangers caused by strong winds and heavy lightning.
