Minister of Health and Industries Dr. Ramesh Pathirana said that the Ministry of Health has allocated a considerable amount of Rs. 5.6 billion from the Treasury to cover the necessary payments for the purchase of medications.
He said that in order to obtain extra funding for the supply of medications for the ensuing two months, a document will be presented to the Cabinet.
During a special conference today (27), Dr. Pathirana spoke about the issues that hospitals and other health facilities under the Ministry of Health are facing.
Dr. Pathirana addressed the assembly and announced that a comprehensive plan of action will be developed shortly to clear all outstanding invoices for government hospitals.
The issue of lack of medical personnel, such as physicians and nurses, in both major and regional hospitals were also taken up. Lack of medications in hospitals was also discussed. Participants also discussed upcoming initiatives for the health and welfare of moms and kids, as well as the potential for workers from outside organizations to collaborate with the health sector in tackling these issues.
