The Department of Government Information Department has denied reports that all Government schools and private tuition classes will remain closed today in view of the Valentine’s day.
The Information Department statement was issued in view of a fake report on social media that schools and tuition classes will be closed today on the advice of Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya who is also the education minister.
The fake report had been sent out on letterhead purported to be from the Education Ministry.
The report said that there has been a rise of incidents of abuse of children on Valentine’s Day and therefore parents should ensure that children should not be sent out of their homes today.
