The Secretary of the Ministry of Health, Director General of Health Services, and Chairman of the National Medicines Regulatory Authority have been informed to report to the Human Right Commission tomorrow (23).
The Human Rights Commission said it has commenced an inquiry into the current medicinal drug shortage in state hospitals based on complaints lodged by Sri Lanka Medical Association (SLMA) and a number of professional colleges of specialist fields.
“Though an initial inquiry was conducted on March 15, officers who have no decision making authority have represented the Health Ministry, therefore the inquiry was postponed to March 23. The HRC is of the belief that the medicinal drug shortage in state hospitals is a national issue and needs to be addressed without delay,” Commission said.
