Public Security Minister Tiran Alles has been told to appear before the Human Rights Commission (HRC) on March 13 over incidents that took place near Colombo and Kelaniya universities.
The Commission said it has commenced an inquiry into measures taken by police to control protests near Colombo University on March 07 and 08 and near Kelaniya University on March 08.
The HRC has requested the Inspector General of Police to submit the names of senior police officers who were on the field during the protests. The list has to be submitted by tomorrow(10).
Measures taken by police to control Inter-University Student Federation (IUSF)’s protest march near Colombo University has come under severe criticism as police is accused of firing tear gas and water cannons into the Colombo university premises and discomfort to students from nearby schools.

A Sri Lanka Air Force Bell 212 helicopter belonging to the No. 72 squadron has crashed into the Madhuru Oya reservoir this morning, Air FOrce Media Spokesman Eranda Geeganage said.
Update: Five of the twelve passengers on board the bell 212 aircraft that crashed into the Maduru Oya today, have succumbed to their injuries, the SLAF said.
