Human Rights Commission of Sri Lanka (HRCSL) in a letter to the President informed that it was not justified to further extend the detention order of Inter University Students’ Federation (ISUF) Convener Wasantha Mudalige and Inter University Bhikkhus' Federation (IUBF) Convener Siridhamma Thero under the Prevention of Terorism Act (PTA).
The detention orders against them were issued on August 22 by the Defence Ministry granting permission to detain them for 90 days.
If the detentions are extended under the PTA, it is unfair and unconstitutional, HRSL emphasized, stating that it will have a bad image for the country internationally.
Meanwhile, the Colombo Additional Magistrate today ordered to remand ISUF Convener Wasantha Mudalige and IUBF Convener Galwewa Siridhamma Thero until the Attorney General's instructions are received.
