Samagi Jana Balawegaya MP Harin Fernando has sought the help of United National Party (UNP) Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe to secure the release of former MP Ranjan Ramanayake currently serving a jail term for contempt of court.
Mr Fernando during a recent meeting with Mr Wickremesinghe had told the UNP leader that several attempts have already been made to secure Mr Ramanayake’s release through a Presidential pardon, but they have not been successful.
He had requested Mr Wickremesinghe to help to get the early release of Mr Ramanayake.
Mr Fernando on New Year’s day visited Mr Ramanayake at the Prisons.
Speaking to journalists outside the prisons he said that Mr Ramanyake had conveyed his wishes for the new year adding that the former MP was now concentrating on higher education after permission was granted to carryout his studies.
He said that Mr Ramanayake has now spent almost a year in prisons and that his spirits had now improved.
