Health Minister Pavithra Wanniarachchi today agreed to provide an update on the country's COVID-19 situation to Parliament on every Tuesday during the weeks that Parliament is in session.
Minister Wanniarachchi agreed to the request made by United National Party (UNP) Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe that she provides such an update to Parliament to brief MPs about the COVID situation.
Mr Wickremesinghe pointed out that such a system is currently in place in the UK Parliament and noted that providing such timely updates would ensure that correct information is placed before the public.
Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardana too endorsed this view.
