The Monaragala district experienced heavy rains followed by a hailstorm in some areas last evening, ending a severe drought, local residents said.
Moneragala, Buttala, Madulla, and Siambalanduwa Divisional Secretariat areas received rain.
Among the areas that experienced hailstorms were Wedikumbura, Marawa, and Section 32 in Monaragala.
Meanwhile, Mr. AH Ravindra Kumara, Deputy Director of the Monaragala Disaster Management Unit, said that about ten houses were partially damaged due to falling trees due to the heavy rain and said that the Divisional Secretariat will obtain details and arrange to pay compensation.
