A herd of elephants smashed up several telephone posts beside the main road at Cheddikulam in Vavuniya paralyzing the telecommunication services in the area.
At least 16 telephone posts were pulled down by the elephants and smashed.
The Sri Lanka Telecom had been forced to replace the posts and restore services.
