Colombo city received heavy rains for about three hours and was among the areas that received high rainfall figures in the last 24 hours.
Deans Road in Maradana, Armour Street, Thimbirigasyaya, and Pettah were among the affected areas.
Several large trees also had fallen opposite the Fort railway station and Vauxhall street while the Colombo Municipal Council and the Fire Brigade were called to clear the roads.
Residents blamed the CMC for its failure to maintain the drainage system in the city ahead of the rainy season.
