A lorry carrying goods valued at over Rs. 200 million, illegally transported to Kalpiitiya from India via sea, was seized along with two suspects in the Nallandaluwa area by the Madurankuliya police today.
The consignment was being transported under the guise of poultry manure, with the goods concealed using fertilizer sacks.
Among the seized items were 2,500 kg of Indian beedi leaves, 4 kg of Cardamom, and a batch of Indian sweets, including chocolates. The suspects are residents of Mannar and Nallandaluwa, aged between 47 and 50 years.
Acting on information received by the Madurankuliya police, a raid was conducted by a team led by Police Inspector K.K. Gamini Wickrama Singhe. The seized goods and the suspects are to be presented before the Puttalam Magistrate's Court.

Energy Ministry differs on proposed electricity tariff reduction from today.
The Anurdhapura Magistrate Court has granted permission to further investigate allegations of obstructing the duties of the Police, levelled against Member of Parliament Dr Archuna Ramanathan and report facts to courts on February 3.
The Energy Ministry has decided to go ahead with the PUCSL recommendation of reducing the electricity tariff by an average of 20 per cent, Energy Minister Kumara Jayakody said today.
