The Immigration and Emigration Officers Association have decided to withdraw passenger clearance duties from the VIP and CIP Terminals at Bandaranaike International Airport and other Airports from Tomorrow onwards.
The Chairman of the Association, K.A.A.S Kanugla told the times online that they are carrying out the union action to express their displeasure over the rulers who have created the crisis situation over a period of seven decades.
He explained that they planned to carry out their union action until the ruling party resolved the problems that they had created.
“We will give our services to foreign tourists and the general public, however, we will not provide our services to politicians and state officials who use the VIP and CIP terminals. They have to wait and get cleared at the Arrival and Departure terminals at airports along with the other passengers.” He said
Mr Kanugala added that their union action is not a taken strike, therefore until the rulers resolve the economic and political crisis they would remain on their action.
He said that their association condemns the authorities and the ones who call themselves VIPs for depending on people’s tax money as they allowed the country’s economic and political situation to be worsened.
He added that the authorities who should have found solutions by formulating a national plan did not carry out their actions and allowed the people to bear the inconvenience.
