The Diyatalawa Air Force training camp situated at an altitude 1,499 meters (4,918 feet) has been the base from where airman and officers receive their basic training.
The location had been an Army camp in 1885 and eventually it was in 1952 that it was converted to a training camp of the Air Force. Initially it was known as Royal Ceylon Air Forces stable Hills Camp and in 1971 named as Ground Combat Recruit Training Unit.
It was in 1991 named as Sri Lanka Air Force Station Diyathalawa and in 2013 renamed as Sri Lanka Air Force Combat Training School.
Air Commodore Vajira Senadheera is currently the Commanding officer of the camp.
