Samagi Jana Balawegaya Leader, Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa on Monday (15) said his party supporters would be soon called to take to the streets to show their protest against the government.
Mr Premadasa was addressing the first anniversary celebrations of the SJB held at the Hyde Park corner in Colombo.
“People are facing a situation where they cannot eat the three meals and due to the Covid situation people have fallen from the frying pan into the fire”, he said.
“Be prepared to get involved in the national effort to protect the rights of the people, by taking to the streets. Farmers and fishermen are affected while the daily-paid workers too are suffering. The Public sector and even the professionals are affected”.
“In a few weeks time the SJB will give leadership to campaign for the rights of the public,” he said.
He said his party has created a record by returning the highest number of persons to parliament less than one year from the formation of the party.
He said his party’s intention was to end ‘deal politics’ and also to see that the common man is represented.
Mr Premadasa said that at the next presidential election he was confident that they will have a President from the SJB.
He called his party supporters to show their strength at the next upcoming Provincial Council Elections.
He said election after election the youth have been deceived and assured that under a SJB government the same situation will not continue as the right person will be given the right job,
Mr Premadasa said a programme to eradicate poverty should be launched while the destruction of environment should be stopped.
He said they would take steps to set up a youth front to protect the forests.
Many of the party's senior members and leaders of coalition parties of the SJB were in attendance at the convention.
