A 38-year-old woman from India is under investigation after being detained while trying to attempt smuggle 1.2 kg of Kush into the country.
The suspect arrived in Sri Lanka from Bangkok, Thailand, via Hong Kong round 12 a.m. today, Customs Media Spokesman Seevali Arukgoda said.
The narcotic substances were hidden in food packets inside her luggage. Customs estimates the street value of the seized Kush at approximately Rs. 12 million.
The suspect, along with the seized narcotics, has been handed over to the Police Narcotics Bureau for further investigation.
Police said that they were trying to ascertain whether she was involved with other persons who have been detected smuggling drugs into the country.
