An interim injunction was issued today (September 21) by the Colombo District Court preventing the implementation of a letter issued by the Chairman of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP), former President Maithreepala Sirisena to MP Dayasiri Jayasekara dismissing him as the party’s General Secretary recently.
Accordingly, the injunction order was issued by Colombo District Judge Sandun Vithana this morning (21), after considering a petition filed by MP Jayasekara.
The Attorneys who appeared in place of the former SLFP General Secretary, presented the fact that the party’s Chairman former President Sirisena had forwarded a letter mentioning that a disciplinary inquiry would be conducted against MP Jayasekara and requesting apologies on Monday (September 18).
Nevertheless, MP Jayasekara specified that, in line with the SLFP’s constitution, the party Chairman has no mandate to issue such letters.
Therefore, giving consideration to the representations, the Colombo District Judge issued an injunction to be in force until October 05, 2023.
