A former Provincial Council member of the JVP was killed after he was electrocuted from an electricity wire drawn to protect his own vegetable cultivation in the Nuwara Eliya area, Police said today.
The JVP member identified as Michael Silva was also listed to contest under the NPP backed by the JVP at the local council elections.
He had drawn an electrical wire from his own house and connected to a trap to prevent wild boar and other animals entering the vegetable cultivation at nights.
Mr Silva who had visited the land on Saturday morning had accidently tripped on the wire.
Police is carrying out an investigation.
