Thirty-two Sri Lankan women who had been employed in Kuwait and had been deported for having violated Kuwaiti laws arrived at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) this morning.
The women had fled contracted places of employment and had been working in other places. They had all registered with Sri Lanka's Embassy in Kuwait to volunatarily return home.
The returnees were mainly from Anuradhapura, Vavuniya, Gampaha, Kinniya, Colombo, Kurunegala and Puttalam.
Officials said an estimated 30, 000 Sri Lankans in Kuwait have fled their contracted places of employment and were now working in other areas without valid visas.
A spokesman of the Sri Lankan Embassy in Kuwait said that according to Kuwaiti immigration authorities, about 84, 000 Sri Lankans had arrived in Kuwait from January this year up until the first week of May looking for work.

A Sri Lanka Air Force Bell 212 helicopter belonging to the No. 72 squadron has crashed into the Madhuru Oya reservoir this morning, Air FOrce Media Spokesman Eranda Geeganage said.
Update: Five of the twelve passengers on board the bell 212 aircraft that crashed into the Maduru Oya today, have succumbed to their injuries, the SLAF said.
