Fifteen Sri Lankans who were in the core area of the Turkey earthquake are affirmed safe, according to Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Turkey, Hasanthi Dissanayake.
The Ambassador called the public to convey more information about Sri Lankans living in Turkey as it could help in finding their whereabouts and carry out rescue efforts.
Details can be submitted to the Consular Division of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs or the Sri Lankan Embassy in Ankara. The Sri Lanka mission in Ankara has set up two emergency numbers for those who need to get more information – 00903124271032 and 00905344569498.
Minister of Foreign Affairs of Sri Lanka Ali Sabry stated that on the instructions of the President he got hold of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkey and offered assistance for search and rescue.
“We recall when the Tsunami struck us in 2004, Turkey provided immediate humanitarian assistance and built a housing complex for those who lost their houses” tweeted the Minister.
Mr. Sabry said that a contingent of 300 military personnel is all set to be deployed to Türkiye once a call for aid is made.

A Sri Lanka Air Force Bell 212 helicopter belonging to the No. 72 squadron has crashed into the Madhuru Oya reservoir this morning, Air FOrce Media Spokesman Eranda Geeganage said.
Update: Five of the twelve passengers on board the bell 212 aircraft that crashed into the Maduru Oya today, have succumbed to their injuries, the SLAF said.
