A 40-year-old man from Caldera Road in Dehiwala has been arrested for calling police emergency hotline 119 and providing false information, Police said.
Police Spokesman DIG Ajith Rohana said the suspect has called the emergency number and provided information on an incident in Kandy.
“Police conducted an investigation based on the phone call and it was evident that the suspect had provided police with false information. He has been produced before Mt. Lavinia Magistrate and remanded till January 19,” he said.
The Police Spokesman said the 119 emergency number is for the public to provide information to police on crimes, accidents and disaster situations and not to mislead police.
