A man suspected for the strangling of three women to death and robbery has been arrested, Police said today (March 18).
The arrest came after police conducted an investigation for the strangling of a woman and robbery in Ittapane on November 2, 2022 and strangling two women and robbery in Elpitiya on February 1.
Accordingly, the Elpitiya Division Crime Investigation Unit Police have arrested a 34 year old Yagirala resident in the evening of March 16 in the Awittawa area and handed him over to the Elpitiya Police.
Upon further questioning, the Police had discovered a necklace, three pairs of earrings and a mobile phone, which were stolen by the suspect.
It was also revealed that the suspect already has court cases in Mathugama, Kalutara and Elpitiya Magistrate Courts.
The suspect was produced to courts and was remanded until today, while the Elpitiya Division Crime Investigation Unit Police are conducting further investigations.
